Limited Edition A3 print in Float Mount off white glass frame
From the collection 'Wintering'
As wetland dwellers, herons are a familiar site near marches, ponds, islands & along rivers in both countryside and urban areas alike. These solitary birds are a year round residents in Ireland, often joined by others from Britain and sometimes Scandinavia during the winter months.
Important during the Bronze & Iron ages, the watery places these sedentary birds inhabit were also home to significant ritual offerings such as jewelry, weapons & coins. And so, standing guard to these precious objects, the calming & composed presence of herons by wetlands saw these poised birds fulfill the role of ‘guardians’ within Celtic mythology.
